First Principles STEM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring, educating, and empowering young individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). As a 501(c)(3) organization, we apply first principles thinking to cultivate problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of STEM subjects.
Initially focusing on robotics, we provide hands-on educational programs, mentorship opportunities, and resources to support underrepresented groups, including girls, minorities, and economically disadvantaged youth. Our initiatives include STEM workshops, competitions, community engagement, and advocacy for equitable STEM education at local, state, and national levels. By fostering innovation and research, we aim to develop the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technologists who will drive progress in STEM fields. Through strategic partnerships and impactful programming, First Principles STEM ensures that all students—regardless of background—have access to quality STEM learning opportunities that empower them to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
What is First Principles Thinking? First principles thinking is a problem-solving approach that breaks down complex ideas into their most fundamental truths and then rebuilds solutions from the ground up. Instead of relying on assumptions or conventional wisdom, this method encourages critical thinking, innovation, and a deep understanding of core principles. At First Principles STEM, we apply this mindset to STEM education—helping students analyze challenges, question existing limitations, and develop creative solutions. By fostering this way of thinking, we empower young minds to become innovators, engineers, and scientists who can tackle real-world problems with confidence and originality.
